Chapter 9: The Bridge

With their newly-acquired Warthogs, the Grunt squad of five continued their trip through a dimly-lit tunnel. They were apparently the only Covenant inside of the tunnel- That is until they reached a checkpoint within the middle of the passage.
Light slowly crept in as they reached the checkpoint. White lights were attached to the walls. There was also a small passage in the center with a bright, blue bridge leading to the next section of the tunnel.
The bridge was glassy-looking, and could only be activated (or deactivated) by accessing the holo-panel on the right side of the chamber (which stood on the edge of a long, but thin outcropping.
In just a matter of seconds, the five Grunts abandoned the seats to their Warthog(s), where they joined a number of Covenant troops on the right side of the wide tunnel; the troops were all hiding between a set of small pillars close to a ramp that lead towards the outcropping (and the holopanel).
The squad was soon accompanied by a fellow Unggoy in yellow clad armor. "Demon coming, grunty brother! We stay here in dark hiding spot. You good?", the Grunt asked. "Oh damn, not that guy again! C'mon, fellas. Follow me!", the crimson-armored sargeant exclaimed.
The Grunt sargeant moved his bulky (index) finger to the side, ordering his four men to follow him up towards the ramp. The Grunts nodded, as they followed their commander up the ramp. However, so did the yellow-armored soldier (who was not even part of the squad).
From the top of the outcropping, the six Grunts peared over, where the bridge hovered above a cloud of grey myst, and over on the other side of the tunnel, the demon known as the 'Master Chief' was heading toward the glasslike structure. Just as he was about to drive onto the bridge, he spotted a number of Covenant forces hiding beneath the pillars on the opposite side of the passage.
The Master Chief quickly left the front of his vehilce, along with two UNSC marines, as they snuck behind one of the short pillars. The Elite standing infront of the Chief growled, and began firing what seemed like endless bursts of plasma from his rifle. However, he was no match for this faceless monstrosity. The green-armored soldier tore through the Elite's shields with the piercing bullets of his Assault Rifle.
Once all of the Covenant forces were eliminated on the right side of the passage, the Master Chief and his two marines went back into their Warthog, and drove onto the brightly-lit bridge.
"Dear God, that thing's a monster; We don't stand a chance!", exclaimed Hackle. "Pull yerself together, Hackle. We can take 'im.", the Grunt sargeant ordered, though he quickly sighed afterward.
"Hey, what's this button do?", Pillow asked, being the curious Grunt that he was. However, he did not hesitate. The black-armored Unggoy clicked the left button on the holopanel. With that, the blue brightness of the bridge slowly dimmed away, sending the Master Chief and his men into a cloud of myst.
Witnessing this, the four other Grunts (excluding the yellow-armored one, of course) looked over at Pillow. He had obviously done something right, but they were not quite sure what it was.
The pilot-skilled Grunt began to smile, turned over to his squadmates, and said, "Yahoo! I'm a role, today!"
