Chapter 8: Retreat

The Grunts screamed and yelped as two more of those bulky vehicles stormed the field. The three Warthogs then began to form a large circle around the grassy terrain, while taunting the six aliens (excluding Piggyback, as he remained inside of his stone-carved shelter).
Quickly, the Grunt sargeant and his men walked toward their fallen (Elite) comrade, who had been run over by one of the monstrous machines.
"Hey, buddy. You gonna be alright?", the sargeant asked. "Well...I'm not quite dead! Actually, I think I can make it."
Just as the Elite commander began to stand back on his two feet, he was immeaditely shot down by a turret attached to the back of the circling Warthog.
"Oh, damn! We've lost 'im!", exclaimed the Grunt sargeant, feeling more annoyed than scared of the vehicles. "Actually, I think i'll be able to pull through.", the commander replied from behind the crew.
Once again, the golden-armored Elite got back on his feet, pulled out a plasma grenade, and just as he was about to throw it, the same turret shot him down with the plasma grenade now sitting right on top of him.
"Everybody, retreat!", shouted the Grunt sargeant. The crew of five quickly ran out of the hypnotic circle just in time; when the blue flame of the grenade erupted, it did not only send the commander flying high into the air, but the Warthogs were also flipped backward (due to them being so close). With that, the marines were crushed under the weight of the massive vehicle.
"Wow....That sure was somethin'.", Silco chuckled, staring back at the remains. "Yeah, but look on the bright side; atleast we've got a nice, new vehicle to use.", said the Grunt sargeant, trying to make the best of the situation.
"What are you talking about, sir? There's no way we can lift that thing!", exclaimed Hackle, pointing toward one of the Warthogs.
Without hesitation, Pillow tossed one of his (several) plasma grenades to the back of the Warthog. As soon as the grenade exploded, the massive vehicle was flipped over again, but this time, into its proper position. The other three Unggoy stared in astonishment, realizing that Pillow himself pulled this one off.
"Whoah, nice one Pillow!", exclaimed Fisca cheerfully.
"Yes, excellent work, Pillow.", the Grunt sargeant replied.
Each of the Unggoy stepped into the Warthog. The Grunt sargeant sat in the front, finding the controls to this vehicle being suprisingly simple. Silco sat next to him, with Fisca sitting in the back, equipped with a fairly large-sized turret. Hackle, however, walked toward of the marine lifeboats, and examined some of the supplies- possibly something that he could find useful. In the end however, all he took were a few frag grenades and what looked to be some type of Laptop (which he kept inside of a patch that sat on his back).
After the inventor gathered the marines' supplies, he and Pillow flipped the other of the three Warthogs over (using the same technique Pillow used to get it back up and running); Hackle sat in the driver's seat, with Pillow on the back.
Several minutes later, the two jeeps rode just out of the field. The Warthogs bumped and hopped over a pair of sharp rocks on the edge of a mountain side, soon leading into a dark tunnel. However, this tunnel was not an ordinary one. The walls were made of metal, with bright, blue lights attached to the ceiling; somebody built this tunnel, although the five Grunts could really care less.

Meanwhile, back on the field, the other remaining Grunt finally decided to go outside. "Ah, finally. The battle must be over by now!", Piggyback said, as he slowly crept outside of his stone-carved house. He soon found that he was alone once again, realizing that he may be spending the rest of his days on this ring.
Oink!
