Up Movie Review
If Pixar - as a studio - has any weakness, it's that they have no idea how to make a bad film. Again and again they release entertaining movies with not only a terrific sense of humor, but a level of storytelling that has set a standard for today's films, animated or otherwise. While I was obviously extremely excited to see Up, never did I expect it - or, to be honest, anything else from this year - to reach the quality of this year's first animated film, Coraline (which, along with last year's Bolt and Wall-E, became one of my top 3 favorite films of all time). Well, I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. Simply put, Up is a perfect movie.
Easily the most emotionally impactful portion of the entire film, the first ten to fifteen minutes of Up are nothing short of beautiful. Using little to no dialogue, the opening "montage" of this film tells the story of Carl and his wife Ellie, and the wonderful life that they share together. Carl is

Earth Movie Review
Synopsis:
"Narrated by James Earl Jones, this documentary from Disneynature follows the path of the sun as it explores our world. Incredible photography allows Earth to focus on a trio of animal mothers and their children: polar bears, elephants, and humpback whales."
Admittedly, I'm not a huge fan of documentaries in general, so I was personally a bit unsure about Earth. Having been thoroughly impressed by the trailers, though, I decided to give the film a chance. And while not terribly informative or thought-provoking, Earth proves to be a visually breathtaking film, and a solid initial effort from Disneynature.
Let me say again that - at the risk of sounding cliché - the cinematography in Earth is absolutely breathtaking. Honestly, this is the most beautiful-looking film I've seen in some time. From the lush forests of South America, to the tranquil, snow-covered Boreal Forest, the vistas showcased are nothing short of incredible. This is a fi

Plot Synopsis:
"At the Forest Ridge Mall, head of security Ronnie Barnhardt patrols his jurisdiction with an iron fist, combating skateboarders, shoplifters and the occasional unruly customer while dreaming of the day when he can swap his flashlight for a badge and a gun. His delusions of grandeur are put to the test when the mall is struck by a flasher. Driven to protect and serve the mall and its patrons, Ronnie seizes the opportunity to showcase his underappreciated law enforcement talents on a grand scale, hoping his solution of this crime will earn a coveted spot at the police academy and the heart of his elusive dream girl Brandi, the hot make-up counter clerk who won't give him the time of day. But his single-minded pursuit of glory launches a turf war with the equally competitive Detective Harrison of the Conway Police, and Ronnie is confronted with the challenge of not only catching the flasher, but getting him before the real cops do."

Monsters vs. Aliens Movie Revi
Plot Synopsis:
"On her wedding day, Susan Murphy (Reese Witherspoon) is hit by a meteorite infused with Quantonium, a rare and powerful element that causes her to grow to an enormous size. Targeted by the government as a monster, Susan is captured and imprisoned at a secret facility where other such oddities are being held, including Dr. Cockroach (Hugh Laurie), a mad scientist who accidentally transformed himself into a roach-human hybrid, B.O.B. (Seth Rogen), a gelatinous, brainless mass brought to life in an experiment gone wrong, The Missing Link (Will Arnett), a Creature-from-the-Black-Lagoon-like lizard man, and the skyscraper-sized mutant larvae Insectosaurus. When deranged alien overlord Gallaxhar (Rainn Wilson) arrives on Earth to obtain the precious Quantonium and conquer the world, President Hathaway (Stephen Colbert) offers the monsters their freedom in exchange for defeating the evil mastermind and his legion of robots and clones."

Watchmen Movie Review
Written on March 6th, 2009
Plot Synopsis:
"Watchmen is set in an alternate 1985 America in which costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the "Doomsday Clock" - which charts the USA's tension with the Soviet Union - is permanently set at five minutes to midnight. When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the washed up but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion - a ragtag group of retired superheroes, only one of whom has true powers - Rorschach glimpses a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy with links to their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the future. Their mission is to watch over humanity... but who is watching the Watchmen?"
While I was pretty excited going into Watchmen, one of my biggest fears was that the film would only cater to fans of the graphic novel. However,

Coraline Movie Review
Plot Synopsis:
"Coraline Jones (Dakota Fanning) is bored in her new home until she finds a secret door and discovers an alternate version of her life on the other side. On the surface, this parallel reality is eerily similar to her real life and the people in it – only much better. But when this seemingly perfect world turns dangerous, and her other parents (including her Other Mother voiced by Teri Hatcher) try to trap her forever, Coraline must count on her resourcefulness, determination and bravery to escape this increasingly perilous world – and save her family."
First off, the visuals in Coraline are absolutely, undeniably breathtaking. I managed to catch this film in 3D, and I have to say that I admire the way that it's used here, as it doesn't rely on constant "flying off of the screen and into your face™" moments. Infact, this is probably the most effective 3D movie I've ever seen, right up there with 2007's Beowulf (which, coincidentally, wa

Bolt Review
Now, when I first saw the trailer for Bolt, I honestly didn't think that much of it. But it didn't look like it'd be bad either, so I checked it out. I was mostly curious to see if Disney could pull off a 3D-animated film without the aid of Pixar, and I have to say that I was extremely impressed.
The film revolves around Bolt, a white German Shephered who has spent his entire life on the set of a TV show in which he portrays a "superdog". As a result, he believes that the events on film (and his super powers) are real. When he is accidentally shipped from his Hollywood soundstage to New York City, he embarks on a cross-country journey to reunite with his owner and co-star, Penny. Along the way, Bolt teams up with a jaded alley cat named Mittens and a TV-obsessed hamster named Rhino who also happens to be an extreme Bolt fanboy.
First of all, the effects in this movie are unbelievable. Everything in the movie looks so realistic and yet doesn’t contradict with the anim

Chapter 13: The Beginning of the End (Amongst Other Cliches)
“WHAT DID YOU DO WITH BIG BIRD?!” MacMillan roared at the Chief as he discarded his black pilot’s jumpsuit.
The Chief stood silent, his assault rifle drawn and aimed dead at MacMillan, who stood with his weapon up as well.
“Like, are you really the Chief? :O!” Suzy exclaimed, clamoring towards the Master Chief, who seemed to ignore her at first, but turned his head towards her slowly.
“Hello, Suzy. He turned you down, didn’t he?” he nodded towards the Arbiter, who didn’t flinch, but his eyes were full of a sudden realization.
“How do you—” MacMillan began, then it hit him, too. “Big Bird?” he asked.
“Nice work, MacMillan,” the Chief began, seeming to be mounting to a long monologue. “It’s time to end this little masquerade. There ain’t no Big Bird, kid. Never was. Fella in my line of work takes on a variety of aliases. Hell,

MacMillan, the Arbiter, and Suzy wandered High Charity's halls [that were reminiscent of one's intestinal track], unable to make contact with Big Bird. Eventually, the trio began to give up hope.
"Humans, look!" the Arbiter exclaimed, as he pointed towards an opening within the "walls" created by the Flood overgrowth. The three of them walked through the opening, revealing what appeared to be none other than the Sea Knight.
"The heli.", MacMillan gasped, entering the vehicle. Suprisingly, it appeared to be in very fine condition, save a couple of mild dents.
"Hey, boys, I've found somethin'!" Suzy shouted from the cockpit. She walked out, with a small sheet of paper in her hand.
"What's it say?" asked the Scotsman.
"I dunno." Suzy replied, "I read the first line, and- just too many big words is all."
"It says 'Hey MacMillan'." the Captain said, frowning towards Suzy (although she was unable to notice it through his ghillie suit). The Captain read the me

The recently procured Phantom that the trio rode in was swatted down even before MacMillan could attempt to raise Big Bird again. As they plummeted towards the city, Suzy simply couldn’t stop screaming. Most of the time, it was ridiculous gibberish or wordless noise, but MacMillan was pretty sure he caught “Arbiter” “Jacob” “mashed potatoes” and “Recon armor” somewhere in the mix.
“Oi, Suzy!” he screamed at her over the Phantom’s malfunctioning machinery and the air rushing into the damaged ship. “Would ya kindly just shut up?!”
“I’ll only do it if the Arbiter tells me to! ;)
“SUZY! SHUT UP!” the Arbiter’s voice thundered from the cockpit
“Oh my gosh!” Suzy shouted to MacMillan, “he said my name! :D
MacMillan rolled his eyes and hoped they were going to crash soon.
No sooner had he thought this, however, than he looked out the qui

Captain MacMillan and the Arbiter walked calmly through the Covenant flagship, back to the helicopter in the docking bay. They were in no hurry, as all Covenant who accosted them were waved off by the Arbiter, still their commanding officer.
“Human, you tell me of this legendary Xbox 360. I have heard of the great Halo games, as well, and have secretly longed to play them. You do have them, then?”
“O’course,” MacMillan replied non-shalantly, “we got ‘em all back at the chopper. You can play to your heart’s content, then we can take down this Truth fellow.”
The Arbiter, though still a bit shaky about the proposition of killing the Covenant’s greatest prophet, nodded his consent. “To the bay, then, it is.”
When the Arbiter and MacMillan arrived, they saw Big Bird standing outside of the helicopter with an MP5, holding back a pack of fearful Grunts.

"Sir, you might wanna take a look at this."
Captain Price made his way toward the bottom of the snow swept hill, where Gaz had made his discovery.
"What is it, Gaz?" asked Price.
"Look." the soldier returned, as Price peered into the frozen lake. Quickly, the Captain spotted a man underneath the ice. Price frowned, stood upward, then stomped his boot apon the ice, cracking it, and thereby ascending the corpse to the surface.
Price pulled the body out of the water and onto the grass, checking the man's uniform. His backpack read "Sergeant Avery Johnson".
"He must've been frozen to death."
"No," Price answered softly, checking the head of the body, "He was shot."
"Sir, you don't think-"
"Head to the top of the hill and grab our gear. MacMillan couldn't have gone far."

Flashback continued
“How could this happen to me??!” Suzy thought angrily, her mind clouded with hormones and rage. “I mean, I’ve made my mistakes… but this night goes on as I’m fading away!” She sobbed repeatedly into her pillow, hoping and praying that her (internet) true knight in shining armor would bust through her door, wearing white armor and rescue her from her evil father.
As she looked out the window into the darkening night, she suddenly realized it: “He can’t keep me in here forever! I can escape! I can climb out this window and go see Jacob…” She sprang out of her bed, grabbing her backpack, texting machine that would enable her to text to all of her friends about her latest emotions around the galaxy, and some less important stuff like clothes and food.
